Baklawa Tray: Scrumptious and Authentic Baklava Recipe

Baklawa, some times spelled Baklava, is a rich, sweet pastry featured in many cuisines in the area once controlled by the former Ottoman Empire, in Central Asia and in the lands in between. It and its variants are thus popular in Turkey, the Balkans, Cyprus, Greece and much of the Arab world, Iran, the Caucasus, Afghanistan.
Recipe: Baklawa Tray
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. Phyllo dough
- 5 cups chopped walnuts
- 2 cups melted butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon ground cardamon
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 2 cups syrup
Instructions
- Mix, nuts , sugar,and ½ cup butter to make the stuffing. Butter a 12’’x17’’baking sheet. Place 2 layers on the baking sheet, and brush with butter. Continue until ½ pound of dough has been layered. Spread the stuffing over the dough. Continue brushing and layering the rest of the dough. Cut into diamond shapes. Heat the rest of the butter and pour over the dough. Bake at 300 degrees F. oven for 45 minutes or until light golden. Remove from oven. Pour cold syrup over. Syrup: 2 cups sugar 1 cup water 1 tablespoon rose water Boil sugar and water for seven minutes. Cool and add the rose water.
