Recipe: Greek Walnuts Cake
Summary: My favorite authentic walnut cake recipe. this recipe comes from Cephalonia (Kefalonia), an island in the Ionian Sea. Self-rising flour and results in a wonderful dark spice and nut cake soaked in a sweet syrup, topped with a sprinkle of more walnuts.
If you don’t have the time to bake, this recipe is very easy and it looks like you spend hours baking this cake.
Ingredients
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup orange juice
- ¾ cup milk
- 4 eggs
- 1 ½ cups chopped walnuts
- syrup
Instructions
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13×9 inches pan. Beat all the ingredients for 2 minutes until well combined. Add the walnuts and fold Bake for 35 to40 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted in the middle comes out dry. Invert on a plate cool. Pour the hot syrup on the cake and wait a couple hours and serve.
- Syrup: 2 cups water 2 ½ cups sugar ¼ teaspoon lemon juice (you can omit the syrup to make easier and quicker)
